Fire At Fredericksburg Warehouse Contained To Industrial Shredder: Officials

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A fire at a Fredericksburg warehouse Friday afternoon was contained to a large industrial shredder, according to the Fredericksburg Fire Department.

The Fredericksburg Emergency Communications Center received a report of a fire in a warehouse building in the 10-block of Harkness Boulevard at about 12:3o p.m., officials said.

Fire units arrived shortly after the call and saw smoke coming from the roof of the warehouse. Firefighters deployed multiple hose lines and extinguished the fire, officials said.

The building’s sprinkler system activated and helped contain the fire, according to the fire department. No injuries were reported, and the owner of the property was notified.

At the height of the incident, the Fredericksburg Fire Department was assisted by Spotsylvania County Fire, Stafford County Fire-Rescue and the Charles County, Maryland Tenth District Volunteer Fire Department’s Airboat 8.

Earlier reports said the fire created significant smoke conditions in a large building, requiring extensive ventilation before the building could be made safe. The Fredericksburg Fire Department said the airboat helped crews ventilate the building while minimizing damage.

The Fredericksburg Fire Marshal’s Office conducted a routine origin and cause investigation. Officials said the fire originated within, and was contained to, a large industrial shredder that was being operated at the time of the incident.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, officials said. A full report is not expected to be available for several days.
