FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Fredericksburg’s Caroline Street has been named the Best Main Street in the South by Garden & Gun after winning a regional competition focused on small-town downtown districts, according to a city press release.
The contest featured 16 main streets from across the South in a March Madness-style bracket with multiple rounds of public voting. Fredericksburg advanced through each round before winning the final matchup.
Caroline Street runs through historic downtown Fredericksburg and is a central part of the city’s commercial and tourism district. The press release says the area includes locally owned businesses, restaurants, historic sites and community events. It also describes the downtown as walkable and says it attracts residents and visitors throughout the year.
“We are incredibly proud of our community, and I think this really shows just how much we love it here," said Mayor Kerry Devine. "Winning the Best Main Street in the South by Garden & Guns was truly a shared effort across the whole community, from our businesses to our residents."
Mayor Devine also said, “It’s times like these that remind me of how collaborative and proud our community is of Fredericksburg. That’s why we like to say that Fredericksburg is where it all comes together.”
Residents and businesses supported the city during the competition, according to the release. Fredericksburg has grown over the years as a destination that combines its history with modern amenities, contributing to the city’s economy and quality of life.
