FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Fredericksburg police are investigating a reported assault on the Canal Path Friday night and said they are reviewing whether it may be linked to an incident reported last fall.
The Fredericksburg E-911 Center received a report of an assault on the Canal Path at about 9:30 p.m. Friday, according to the press release. The victim told police she had left the Fredericksburg Shopping Center and was walking along Emancipation Highway when she entered the Canal Path from the southbound side. After walking under the bridge, a man ran up behind her, grabbed her, assaulted her and exposed himself, according to the release. The victim escaped and ran away.
Police described the suspect as a Hispanic male, about 6 feet tall, with dark hair reaching his eyes, wearing a black hoodie and blue pants. Officers arrived shortly after the call was received, but the suspect had already fled the area on foot, according to the release. A K9 search of the area did not find him.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police said they are evaluating possible links between the May 1 assault and an incident reported Oct. 19, 2025. The release said there is no connection to the March assaults because the suspect in those cases is currently in custody.
