CAROLINE COUNTY, VA — Two Fredericksburg women were killed Saturday in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Caroline County, Virginia State Police said.
Troopers were called around 11:30 a.m. to investigate a crash at the 115-mile marker, according to state police.
A preliminary investigation found that a 2009 GMC Yukon driven by Delores Virginia Parker, 58, of Fredericksburg, was traveling south on I-95 when it went onto the left shoulder, entered the median and crossed back into the northbound lanes, according to VSP. The Yukon struck a 2017 Jeep Wrangler driven by Shelly Sutton Owens, 59, of Fredericksburg. The impact caused the Jeep to overturn.
A 2025 Jeep Wrangler also was struck and came to rest in the center lane, state police said.
Parker and Owens died from injuries received in the crash, according to state police. The driver of the 2025 Jeep Wrangler was taken to Mary Washington Hospital for treatment of injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
