FREDERICKSBURG, VA — City government offices will be closed Friday, but trash collection stays on schedule.
Fredericksburg city government offices will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day, while several city services will operate on modified schedules heading into the holiday weekend.
Residents who receive curbside trash and recycling service should place all items at the curb by 7 a.m. Friday. Collection will continue on its regular schedule despite the holiday. City officials said items not at the curb when collection crews pass by will not be picked up and must be held until the next scheduled collection day.
The Belman Road Recycling Center and the Stafford Landfill will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 3, but both facilities will be closed on Saturday, July 4.
Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FRED) will not operate on Friday, July 3, or during the Independence Day weekend.
The Fredericksburg Visitor Center will remain open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday for residents and visitors seeking information about local attractions and holiday events.
City officials are encouraging residents to sign up for Fredericksburg Alert to receive notifications about weather, road closures, trash service updates and other emergency information.

Most Commonwealth of Virginia government offices will be closed Friday, July 3, because Independence Day falls on Saturday, July 4. This follows the state's official 2026 holiday calendar.

Virginia ABC stores will remain open on Independence Day, but with reduced hours. All Virginia ABC stores will close at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 4.
