1. Fredericksburg Council To Consider Revised 1500 Gateway Data Center Plan (patch.com) — Fredericksburg residents will soon have a chance to weigh in as City Council considers a scaled‑back 1500 Gateway data center proposal, along with related zoning changes and conditions addressing traffic, open space, and emergency planning. The meeting will also launch a review of townhouse zoning updates, present a federal grant spending report, and consider new Wall of Honor inductees and appointments to key city roles and commissions.
2. Fredericksburg Inspections Find Low Hot Water, Refrigeration Problems (patch.com) — Health inspectors recently cited several Fredericksburg restaurants and a mobile food unit for issues like low hot water temperatures, weak refrigeration, and missing food‑safety procedures, though many problems were fixed on the spot. The report highlights specific locations and violations so Fredericksburg diners can better understand how local establishments are meeting Virginia's food safety standards.
3. VDOT Plans Overnight Lane Closures on I-95 in Stafford and Near Fredericksburg Aug. 23-29 (potomaclocal.com) — Expect overnight lane closures on I-95 near Fredericksburg and Stafford, plus daytime work on Route 1, from August 23–29 that could slow your commute. VDOT's Fredericksburg District will be doing pavement markings, bridge maintenance over the Rappahannock, and interchange improvements near Exit 126. Drivers are urged to check 511 Virginia before heading out.
4. Stuart: Water permit to Amazon would be 'indefensible' (fredericksburgfreepress.com) — A major fight over groundwater near Fredericksburg is brewing as Sen. Richard Stuart urges state regulators to deny Amazon's request to draw 6.4 million gallons a year from the Potomac aquifer for a King George data center campus. Stuart argues the permit would contradict a new state report warning the aquifer is nearly tapped out and unfairly favor a corporation over local drinking water needs. Amazon's local attorney, who also handles projects in the Fredericksburg area, says the company has no response yet.
