Police Say Man Punched Driver Who Declined Race At Stafford Gas Station

A Fredericksburg man was charged after deputies said he struck a person who declined a vehicle race at a Stafford Sheetz.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A Fredericksburg man was arrested Sunday night after authorities said he struck someone who declined his challenge to race their vehicles at a Stafford County gas station.

Deputies responded shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday to the Sheetz at 10 Washington Square Plaza to investigate the report of an assault, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

The victim told investigators that the suspect asked whether the victim wanted to race. After the victim declined, the suspect began arguing and eventually struck the victim in the face, authorities said. Witnesses corroborated the victim's account, according to the sheriff's office.

Suspect Released On Unsecured Bond

Additional deputies stopped the suspect, who admitted striking the victim, authorities said.

Hendrix Weston Roberson, 20, of Fredericksburg was arrested and charged with assault and battery. He was released on an unsecured bond, according to the sheriff's office.
