Fall is officially here in Fredericksburg, and there's no shortage of ways to make the most of it. From festivals and farmers markets to pumpkin patches, live music and other seasonal fun, October brings plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy what's happening close to home.
Here are some events and activities happening in and around Fredericksburg this October.

Where: Hurkamp Park, 500 William St, Fredericksburg
Spend a fall Saturday browsing locally grown produce, meats, baked goods, honey and other products at the Fredericksburg Farmers Market. Art in the Park joins the market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first four Saturdays of October, bringing local artists and crafters to Hurkamp Park. On Oct. 31, the city will also host Halloween at the Market, with family-friendly seasonal fun planned from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Scarecrows take over downtown during Scarecrow Fest 2026, a monthlong celebration inviting visitors to find creative scarecrows displayed at participating businesses and vote for their favorites. The festivities extend well beyond the scarecrow contest, with special October events including Park After Dark on Oct. 9, Quacktoberfest and Halloween Movies in the Park on Oct. 17, and a full slate of Halloween activities downtown on Oct. 31.
When: Saturday, October 10, 2026, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, October 11, 2026, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Get a head start on seasonal and holiday shopping at the Fredericksburg Fall Arts & Crafts Show. More than 200 artisans and crafters are expected to fill the convention center with handmade jewelry, home décor, fine art, woodwork, candles, textiles, specialty foods and other one-of-a-kind finds.
When: Saturdays and Sundays, September 26 - October 25, 2026, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Where: Braehead Farm, 1130 Tyler St, Fredericksburg
Celebrate harvest season at Braehead Farm's Fall Festival, held on weekends through Oct. 25. Visitors can pick their own pumpkins, gourds, flowers and available produce or purchase pre-picked options at the farm market. Festival admission can be added to the farm's Family Playgrounds experience, which includes play areas, a hay barn, picnic space and farm animals; food trucks are also scheduled on festival weekends.

Looking for something scarier? Halls of Hysteria returns to the Fredericksburg Convention Center for its second year with a fully indoor haunted trail. Guests will make their way through changing scenes featuring everything from graveyards and twisted cornfields to clowns, zombies, possessed dolls and other horror-inspired scares. The attraction is strongly recommended for ages 13 and older and is scheduled for Oct. 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31.

Where: Meeting point at St. George's Episcopal Church, 905 Princess Anne St, Fredericksburg, VA
Explore the city's darker history during a Fredericksburg Forbidden Frights Ghost Tour. This hour-long walking tour covers approximately one mile through historic Fredericksburg, sharing stories of reported hauntings connected to locations such as Kenmore and the Mary Washington House. Tours run year-round, but October offers an especially fitting time to discover the city's spookier side.
