FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Residents can clear unwanted prescription medications out of their homes Saturday with a free, anonymous drop-off at Fredericksburg Wegmans and additional collection sites across the area.
Wegmans, located at 2281 Carl D. Silver Parkway, will collect expired, unused and unwanted prescription medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The grocery chain is partnering with local law enforcement agencies, and no questions will be asked.
Wegmans will accept only pills and patches. Liquids, needles and other sharps will not be accepted.
The collection coincides with National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Residents can search by ZIP code or city and state using the Drug Enforcement Administration's collection-site directory.
Additional nearby drop-offs will operate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday through Operation Medicine Cabinet, hosted by Partners in Aging with support from local law enforcement, according to Mary Washington Healthcare's event listing:
Medications may remain in their original bottles. Sharps restrictions vary by location; check the event listing before bringing needles or other sharps.
For questions about Operation Medicine Cabinet sites, call Health Link at 540-741-1404, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
