Woman Accused Of Attempting Withdrawal From Another Person’s Fredericksburg Bank Account

Police say a New York woman tried to withdraw cash using a fraudulent military ID. Court records list six charges.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 61-year-old New York woman faces six charges after police said she tried to withdraw money from someone else's account at a Fredericksburg bank while possessing a fraudulent military identification card.

Martha Renard was arrested Oct. 22 after a officer with Fredericksburg police responded to a report of fraud in progress at a bank in the 500 block of Emancipation Highway, according to a police release.

The caller reported that a woman inside the bank was attempting to withdraw cash from an account that did not belong to her. The caller also said she had tried the same thing at a Spotsylvania branch earlier that day, police said.

Renard had a fraudulent military identification card bearing the identity of an account holder who lives in Virginia, according to police. Donnelly used police resources to identify her, the release said.

Fredericksburg General District Court records identify the defendant as Martha Yolanda Renard and list three felony charges: forgery or employing a forged document as true; attempted obtaining of a signature by forgery; and attempted identity theft involving financial loss exceeding $1,000.

The records also list three misdemeanor charges: identity theft involving use of identification to defraud in an amount of $1,000 or less; possession of fictitious identification or a license; and falsely identifying herself to law enforcement.

Police said Renard was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

The charges were filed Oct. 23. Preliminary hearings on the felony charges and adjudicatory hearings on the misdemeanors are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Feb. 9, 2027. The supplied court records, dated Oct. 26, list Renard as in custody and show no dispositions.
