Spotsylvania Driver Crashed, Fled On Foot After Pursuit, Deputies Say

Deputies say a Spotsylvania man crashed a Dodge Charger and ran after a pursuit. Court hearings are set for February.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A Spotsylvania man faces nine charges after deputies say he sped through an apartment complex, crashed a Dodge Charger into a ditch and fled on foot following an attempted traffic stop on Friday.

Stephon Wilkins-Booker, 36, was apprehended shortly after leaving the car, according to the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office. No one was injured, authorities said.

Deputies responded around 9:40 p.m. to Patriot Highway and Orchard Ridge Drive for a reported hit-and-run crash. Callers said two Dodge Chargers were driving recklessly and doing donuts in the road when a passing vehicle was struck, according to the release.

A responding deputy spotted a Dodge Charger driving erratically on Patriot Highway, authorities said. After the car turned onto Old Telegraph Road, the deputy attempted a traffic stop, but the driver accelerated away.

The pursuit continued along Old Telegraph Road and into Orchard Ridge Apartments, where the driver sped through the complex before crashing into a ditch at Orchard Ridge Drive and Patriot Highway, the sheriff's office said.

Charges Include Eluding, DUI And Marijuana Offense

The sheriff's office said Wilkins-Booker was charged with felony and misdemeanor eluding; obstruction of justice; reckless driving for failure to maintain control; reckless driving on private property; possession with intent to distribute marijuana; DUI, second offense within five years; driving with a DUI-related license suspension; and an open-container offense.

Court records identify him as Stephon Craig Wilkins-Booker and list two felony cases and seven misdemeanor cases. The marijuana case lists a charge involving more than 1 ounce and up to 5 pounds.

The felony eluding entry includes the notation "accessory before the fact." The release describes Wilkins-Booker as the driver. The court entry for the reckless-driving charge described in the release as failure to maintain control instead uses an improper-brakes description.

Court Hearings Scheduled For February

Preliminary hearings on the felony charges and adjudicatory hearings on the misdemeanors are scheduled for 10 a.m. Feb. 18, 2027, in Spotsylvania General District Court, according to records posted Monday. No dispositions are listed.

The sheriff's office said Wilkins-Booker was taken to Rappahannock Regional Jail and held without bond. Eight court entries list him in custody; the open-container case separately lists release on a summons.
