Armed Confrontation In Downtown Fredericksburg Leads To Arrest: Police

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 32-year-old Ruther Glen man is facing multiple charges, including carrying a concealed weapon, in connection with an armed confrontation that occurred last week in downtown Fredericksburg, according to police.

Fredericksburg Police E-911 Center received a report around 11:50 p.m., on Thursday, of a man pointing a firearm at an acquaintance in the 600 block of Caroline Street.

The victim told officers that he and a person he knows named "Charles" were talking when the other man became confrontational. As the conversation became heated, the victim told police that Charles pulled out a firearm, pointed it at him and then racked it. Once the victim called 9-1-1, Charles left the area on a maroon-colored bicycle, according to police.

Investigators determined that Charles Cooper of Ruther Glen was the person who reportedly pointed the gun at the victim. Police obtained an arrest warrant charging Cooper for brandishing a firearm.

On Tuesday night, an officer on patrol on Princesss Anne Street saw Cooper, took him into custody, and served him with the outstanding warrant.

During a body search of the suspect, the officer found two loaded firearms in Cooper's possession. The officer obtained additional warrants charging Cooper on two counts of carrying a concealed weapon. The magistrate released Cooper on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.

Cooper has a hearing scheduled for 8:30 a.m., on May 14, in Fredericksburg General District Court, where he will face one charge of brandishing a firearm and two charges of carrying a concealed weapon, according to court records.
