Baby Delivered in Storm, With Help of 911 Operator

Snow kept a midwife from reaching a couple to help deliver their baby. Thankfully, a 911 operator talked the new dad through the delivery.

STAFFORD, VA — When a baby boy is ready to arrive, he doesn’t check the weather. Just ask a new Stafford couple celebrating the birth of their healthy baby boy, with the help of a 911 dispatcher in the middle of the 2016 blizzard.

The family had planned to have a midwife assist with the birth, but on Saturday afternoon, the labor began with more than a foot of snow outside and no way for the midwife to make it in time.

The new dad called 911 and a dispatcher walked him through the birth while Stafford County Fire and Rescue were dispatched.
