FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A new barbecue restaurant is scheduled to open this spring in downtown Fredericksburg, according to a report. The restaurant, The Pig Pitt, will be in the old Happy Clam site at 1017 Sophia St., the Free Lance-Star reported Monday.

Peggy Sue Durrette, the owner of the soon-to-open barbecue restaurant, also runs a barbecue restaurant in Hilltop Plaza in Spotsylvania County that opened about a year and a half ago.

The new Pig Pitt will have a similar menu to the Spotsylvania County restaurant. It will feature pork, chicken and beef smoked over hickory, with a variety of barbecue sauces, the Free Lance-Star reported.

Durrette has applied for a license to serve wine and beer, which she does not serve at her Spotsylvania restaurant, according to the news report. The Happy Clam, the previous tenant of the space, closed in 2019.
