FALMOUTH, VA — A barefoot man had Stafford County Public Schools up in arms Friday after he flagged down a school bus Thursday, rode it to Stafford High School and proceeded to help himself to breakfast in the cafeteria, according to a report.

The 26-year-old man, whose name was withheld by authorities, was arrested without trouble about 7:50 a.m. Friday and transferred to a medical facility for evaluation. Regardless, the incident has many asking why no one questioned his presence on the bus in the first place, the Free Lance-Star reported.

The bus was traveling in the area of Lansberry Drive in southern Stafford when it picked up the man. School officials did not release the name of the bus driver, but confirmed the man was picked up 100 feet from a designated county school bus stop after allegedly signaling the bus. Officials said the driver possibly stopped because it’s common practice to do so during the first week of school while students get acclimated to bus stop locations.

While the district said the man did not have a weapon nor did he make threatening comments to students or staff, the fact he made it into the school “boggled the minds” of some district parents. In response, Stafford County Superintendent Scott Kizner said the division is taking extra safety precautions and plans to review the security procedures in place.
