Barricade Situation Leads To More Charges For Wanted Man In Stafford: Police

A wanted man who barricaded himself inside a Stafford County home for an hour and a half was arrested on Saturday, police said.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A wanted man barricaded himself inside a Stafford County home on Saturday night, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

The man, Christopher Smith, was eventually taken into custody. Nobody was injured, police said.

Smith was already wanted for charges of vandalism and assault on a family member in Patrick County. He was also wanted in Henry County for threats made over the phone. Now, he faces an additional charge of obstruction in Stafford County, the sheriff's office said.

Smith is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

The incident began around 9 p.m. on Saturday at a house on Fallsway Lane in the Shadow Woods neighborhood. Deputies planned to serve Smith's outstanding warrants.

One of the deputies saw Smith in the home's backyard and ordered him to stop. Authorities claimed that Smith ignored the deputy, ran into the home's basement, and locked the door behind him.

Stafford County's Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the home and spoke with Smith. After an hour and a half, they convinced him to exit the home, according to the police report.
