Billiken's Smokehouse At The Chimneys Opens In Fredericksburg
Billiken's Smokehouse At The Chimneys is now open in downtown Fredericksburg, and it operates out of quite the historic structure.
FREDERICKSBURG, VA — It's one thing to go to a barbecue shack. It's quite another to go to a BBQ joint that operates in a restored home on the National Register of Historic Places. Say hello to Billiken's Smokehouse at The Chimneys, which recently opened at 623 Caroline Street in downtown.
Operated by Greg and Sharon Shalawylo and managed by their daughter, Ashlie Shalawylo, the business is an offshoot of Billiken's BBQ Company in Mineral, 200 Lake Front Drive. Most of the food is smoked on a grill in restaurant's backyard. There's typical barbecue fare, such as ribs, chicken, beef and, of course, pork.
On its Facebook page, the new Billiken's Smokehouse has information about its complete menu and special offers and holiday themed events. As with the other eatery, it offers carry-out service and catering. The completely renovated house, which was built from 1771-73, certainly serves as a drawing card.

"Some people just want to peek in, and we give them a tour," the manager, Ashlie Shalawylo, told the Free Lance-Star. "We don't mind showing off the house. It's a part of us now."
She told the newspaper the family spent around a year refurbishing the home. Chandeliers were installed, the old bar was replaced with a handmade model and antiques were added. After the upstairs rooms are renovated, they'll be available for, among things, private parties.
