I'm a shiny new Patch blogger!

This is a new blog, so I'm just introducing myself and saying hello. What's it like to be an American Muslim woman living in the 'Burg? Fun, busy, and fulfilling.

Hello everyone!  I'm Nancy, a new blogger here at Fredericksburg Patch.  I grew up in Oklahoma but I've called Virginia home for the last 13 years.  When I moved out here to get married, my new hubby and I originally lived in Alexandria, and we've been drifting south ever since. You know how hard it is to find an affordable decent place to live in the D.C. area.  A big blessing is that my husband and I are not commuters.  We both work in the area. Well, actually, we work from home.  Hubby, Sherif, is out and about on a daily basis, but I pretty much just shuffle from the kitchen to my office and back, professional business attire not required, which is good because my toddler has a bad habit of wiping his nose on my shirt when he's congested.

I am a person who lives frugally, almost brutally so. When you are an entrepreneur you have no safety net, so you have to learn to live simply and make do. You know, like our ancestors did back in the olden days. "Use it up, wear it out, make do, or do without". Add five kids and one father-in-law to the mix (and one pregnant cat about to pop any day now) and you learn to pinch pennies until they scream. You can live well and live simply.  A lot of is is prioritizing, deciding what is important to you. A lot of it is being married to an Arab with an almost mystical ability to bargain for stuff.  I mean, this man could sell, well, sand to an Arab.  That's my husband. He and I make a pretty good team. You'll hear more about him the more I write. He's a bit uncomfortable with being mentioned on line, here and at my other blogs, but he's a good sport and I don't share any of our deep dark secrets, like the fact that he gets freaked out when the cat's cold nose touches any part of his body.

Well, I'm getting distracted by the cat and the kids interrupting so I'll sign off for now. I want to get to know my fellow F'burgers, so feel free to drop me a line and say howdy. I plan to use this blog to get to know more people, to share my tips on everything from marriage to shopping to how to make a really nice loaf of bread.  In short, I'm just gonna blab and hope someone enjoys reading it. So, goodbye for now Fredericksburgers. Hope to talk with you again soon!
