Breaking: Sinkhole Opens on Butler Road

A sinkhole on Butler Road at Cambridge Street in Stafford has closed the eastbound lane and one westbound lane in the vicinity of the Falmouth Intersection to traffic.

A steel plate will be placed over the damaged pavement so the lane can be reopened in time for evening rush hour. For now, east and westbound travelers are sharing the westbound lanes and flaggers are directing traffic through the work zone.

Virginia Department of Transportation crews will start permanent repair work tonight and Butler Road will be closed during that time. Detours will be set up around the work zone.
