Bridge Repairs Begin Tuesday in Fredericksburg: VDOT

The bridge over Hazel Run on Route 1 was structurally damaged in the 2011 earthquake. The $1.1 million project should be completed by June.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Work begins Tuesday on a five-month, $1.1 million project to shore up the bridge over Hazel Run on Route 1 that was structurally damaged by the 2011 earthquake, according the the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The work will include surface repairs to the concrete substructure, improvement to slope protection, sealing of expansion joints, as well as milling and paving to improve deck drainage.

Traffic impact should be minimal until April.
