For the first time, Fredericksburg is invited to plant 3,000 flags for September 11

Event Details

Faith Baptist Church, 4105 Plank Rd, Fredericksburg, VA, 22407

For years, Faith Baptist Church has planted 3,000 American flags on our front lawn the week before September 11 — one for every life lost that day. Last year, something happened that changed the event: neighbors who weren't members of our church stopped by and asked if they could plant a flag for a loved one killed on 9/11. We said yes. This year, we're saying yes to the whole community.

On Saturday, September 5, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, anyone in the Fredericksburg area is invited to come plant a flag in honor of someone who perished on September 11, 2001. Participants can bring a physical or digital photo of the person they're honoring — we'll photograph physical pictures on site, and those images will be woven into a memorial video shown at our services the next morning. Those honoring a friend or acquaintance can tie a ribbon bearing that person's name to a flag. Every family will receive a printed remembrance listing all 2,977 names, along with an invitation to the memorial service on Sunday, September 6. The flags remain standing through September 11.

Community members can sign up at https://bit.ly/4hhwioE. There's no cost to participate. The event is held at Faith Baptist Church, 4105 Plank Road, Fredericksburg.
