STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A new vegan bakery is coming to Stafford County. Cinnaholic is scheduled to open at the Embrey Mill Town Center in September.

This week, Cinnaholic Stafford owners Ricardo and Nicole Trevino spoke with Patch about what inspired them to start their business, and their dreams for the bakery.

Ricardo Trevino said he had always wanted to start a business that left a positive impact on the planet.

"Our family is vegan due to our extreme admiration and love for all living species," Trevino told Patch. "Cinnaholic’s business model and philosophy are exactly what I was looking for. Cinnaholic is a great bakery that happens to be 100% plant based, and their product is a work of art for the senses."

The Cinnaholic chain operates vegan bakeries in Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. The next closest location is coming to Herndon in the coming months, according to their website.

There are 100 Cinnaholic franchises in the U.S. and Canada.

"Our mission is to solve everyone’s dessert cravings while having a positive impact on the world," the brand says on its website. "At Cinnaholic, we believe everyone has the power to make a positive change in the world — for our people, the animals and the planet."

After nearly 30 years in the U.S. Navy, Ricardo Trevino finished his military career in Stafford County. After leaving the military, the Trevinos were originally unsure if they'd stay in the area.

"But Stafford quickly became part of our lives. We are proud to call Stafford our home and build lasting relationships with our neighbors," the Trevinos said. "We figured that Stafford would be the best place to start our new endeavor and continue to make an impact in the community."

The path to starting a Cinnaholic bakery in Stafford has not always been smooth. The Trevinos originally hoped to open their bakery in 2022, but encountered several delays.

They told Patch that construction is moving on pace this time, and they are preparing to host their grand opening in September.

The support for the bakery, from community members and foodies, has been encouraging for the Trevinos throughout the construction process.

"We have quickly amassed a good following on social media with the help of our franchisor," Ricardo Trevino said. "Many people have asked me to cater future events and most comments have been very positive. People cannot wait for us to finally open our doors to our friends and neighbors."

Ricardo Trevino noted that his experience in the restaurant world is limited. He worked in restaurants when he was younger, but he believes his military experience will help Cinnaholic find success.

"My 29-year military career and subsequent time as a contractor have prepared me to lead others, build productive teams, be responsible and organized, pay attention to detail, provide customers with the best product possible, and make others feel welcomed and respected," Trevino said. "At Cinnaholic Stafford we will do our best to become your favorite and friendliest bakery in town."

The Trevinos noted that they have two children and a pair of dogs.

"We love nature and meeting folks to share ideas and build relationships," Ricardo Trevino said. "We are super excited to serve Stafford!"

More information about Cinnaholic is available on the brand's website and the Stafford location's Facebook page. The Stafford location will be located at 825 Wonder Road, Building 3, Suite 110.
