Closure Of Sears At Spotsylvania Towne Centre Coming Soon: Report
A going-out-of-business sale at the Sears store began Dec. 2, and most merchandise has been sold, according to a report.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The Sears store at the Spotsylvania Towne Centre is scheduled to close Sunday, Feb. 2. The store will likely be torn down after its closure in order to build an apartment building, the Free Lance-Star reported. A going-out-of-business sale began Dec. 2, and most merchandise has been sold, the newspaper said.
Transformco, the parent company of Sears and Kmart, announced in November its plans to shut 96 stores by February. Among those stores is the Sears located at Spotsylvania Town Centre.
Sears has anchored Spotsylvania Towne Centre since the mall opened in 1980, the Free Lance-Star reported. In the last 15 years, Sears and Kmart have closed more than 3,500 stores.

Sears and Kmart are part of a growing list of brick-and-mortar establishments that have seen a nosedive in revenue and popularity with the emergence of e-commerce companies such as Amazon and Walmart.
