Columbus Day 2016: What's Open, What's Closed in Fredericksburg

City government offices will be closed but not schools: Here's a rundown of the holiday schedule for key entities.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Columbus Day is that relatively odd holiday during which most traditional closings are the norm — unless they're not.

Here's a brief rundown of what's open and what's not Monday in Fredericksburg:

Banks: Most banks are closed but check with your financial institution to be sure.

Financial markets: U.S. markets open.

Government offices: City government offices will be closed.

Mail: No mail. Post offices are closed.

Schools: Open, as are schools in Spotsylvania County. Stafford County schools are closed except for a teacher work day.

Trash collection: All curbside trash and recycling collection will take place as regularly scheduled. The Belman Road Recycling Center and the Stafford Landfill will be open normal hours: 8 a.m. -4:30 p.m. Other municipal and private haulers may work on a different schedule.
