Crab Thief Nabbed In Fredericksburg: Police

A man was caught on video surveillance stealing two bushels of crabs early Saturday from Decautur's Crabs: Fredericksburg Police

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — If you break into a jewelry store, chances are you're there to steal jewelry. If you break into an electronics store, chances are you're there to steal electronics. And if you break into a crab shop, well, you get the idea. So it went Saturday at Decatur's Crabs, 2022 Plank Road, according to Fredericksburg Police.

Around 1 p.m., police responded to the scene for a report of missing items. Video surveillance review found that William M. Diaz Jr., 28, of Fredericksburg, entered the business at 1:40 a.m. and stole a check as well as, yep, two bushels of crabs.

He was located and arrested later in the day without incident. Crabs aren't cheap, mind you. The Monday special at Decatur's was $40 for a half bushel and $70 for a bushel. Diaz is being held without bond at the Rappahonnock Regional Jail. He's charged with felony breaking and entering, felony grand larceny and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
