Driver Crashed Into Stafford Fire Truck, Injuring Firefighter: Police

Authorities said a drunk driver crashed into a fire truck in Stafford County on Thursday. A firefighter was injured in the crash.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A firefighter was injured in a crash on I-95 in Stafford County last week, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said a drunk driver ran into the back of a fire truck that was stopped for a crash.

Four passengers in the driver's car suffered serious injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. The firefighter received medical treatment at the hospital and was released.

After the crash, the sheriff's office arrested the driver, who police identified as Ricardo Rodriguez-Montoya. He is charged with DUI, reckless driving, DUI maiming, felony child neglect and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

Authorities said the crash occurred around 11 p.m. on Thursday near the 134.5 mile marker of northbound I-95. Investigators claimed that Rodriguez-Montoya drove into the back of a fire truck that had its emergency lights activated while it was stopped at the scene of a crash.

A Stafford County detective claimed that there were three children in Rodriguez-Montoya's car who were not properly restrained.

"Motorists are reminded to slow down and move over for stopped emergency vehicles," the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook. "Contact our Traffic Safety Unit at 540-658-4450 to schedule a free car seat installation."
