FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A box truck driver traveling northbound on Interstate 95 on Sunday morning was injured when ice from another vehicle smashed the truck's windshield and entered the cab, according to the Virginia State Police.

The truck was near the 126 mile marker in Spotsylvania County when the incident occurred, according to VSP. The driver sustained only minor injuries.

"Unsecured snow and ice can become dangerous projectiles," according to the state police, which asks that drivers take a few extra minutes to clean off their vehicles.

From Friday morning to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Virginia State Police responded to 325 total crashes, 34 of which had injuries, according to a release. Not all crashes were related to last week's winter storm. There have been three fatal crashes during the storm in Greensville, Dinwiddie, and Fauquier Counties.

  • Division 4 (Southwest Virginia) – 54 crashes, two with injuries
  • Division 5 (Hampton Roads/Eastern Shore) –52 crashes, five with injuries, one fatal (Greensville – under investigation)
  • Division 6 (Western Virginia/Roanoke) – 76 crashes, five with injuries
  • Division 7 (Northern Virginia) – 53 crashes, 12 with injuries
