Police are looking for a man who victimized a 73-year-old woman in a driveway repair scam in the Falmouth area of Stafford: SCSO.

STAFFORD, VA — Police are looking for a man who victimized a 73-year-old woman in a driveway repair scam in the Falmouth area, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. Irvin Grady, 61, is wanted for obtaining money by false pretenses, impersonating a contractor and soliciting without a permit.

The woman told police a man knocked on her door around 1 p.m. Sept. 4 and asked her if she wanted him to reseal her driveway. She asked for an estimate but was told he couldn't give her one because he didn't know the cost of the materials. The woman nevertheless agreed to have the work done. So Grady showed up the next day around 11:30 a.m. Two hours later, he told the woman he was finished and the cost was $4,800. She signed a "contract" and was given a business car for Black Top Paving and Sealing but Grady told her to make the check out to him and not the company. He cashed it the next day.

The repairs didn't seem adequate so the woman called the company's owner, Delmer Grady, Jr., and asked for a refund or someone to complete the job. The owner said the man doesn't work for the company and had been attempting to do business under the company name for a couple of years.

That's when the woman called police, who checked out the driveway and saw several cracks on what appeared to be a spray-painted surface. The owner of the company said Grady is his uncle and had never been employed by the business. Anyone with information is urged to call 540-658-4400.
