STAFFORD, VA—A man who had a devil of a time maintaining control of his vehicle and then led police on a high-speed chase before crashing in the area of 152 Winding Creek Road was arrested early Saturday, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

Neil James Lamb, 25, of Midland, was charged with felony eluding, driving under the influence, driving suspended (second offense), failure to stop at a stop sign and expired inspection.

Around 1:45 a.m., an officer in the area of 33 Wicomico Drive noticed a vehicle repeatedly slowing down and speeding up over the speed limit. At the intersection of Northampton Boulevard and Old Mineral Road, the vehicle didn't come to a complete stop at a stop sign.

When the officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, the driver took off and continued to drive erratically before crashing into a traffic sign. When Lamb got out of the vehicle, police immediately smelled alcohol on his breath. Multiple open containers of booze were found in and around the vehicle.
