Drunk Woman Crashes Into Pond In Stafford: Police

A drunk woman was arrested after crashing her vehicle into a pond following a hit-and-run incident in Stafford, according to the SCSO.

STAFFORD, VA—A drunk woman was arrested Wednesday night after crashing her vehicle into a pond following a hit-and-run incident in the southern end of the county, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. Jenna Briganti, 37, of Spotsylvania, was charged with driving under the influence and hit and run.

Shortly after 6 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run report in the area of 175 Warrenton Road. A woman said an unknown vehicle hit her vehicle while she was stopped on Lendall Lane at a traffic light getting ready to turn onto Warrenton Road. She said it made a wide turn onto Lendall Lane and hit the front of her vehicle.

While a deputy searched the area, a woman—Briganti—flagged him down in the 400 block of Lendall Lane. She was wet, muddy and wasn't wearing shoes. The deputy got out his vehicle and Briganti tried to get into the passenger's seat. When told to stop, she said she needed to go home.

That's when the officer noticed Briganti "appeared extremely intoxicated." She smelled strongly of alcohol, was unsteady on her feet and had glassy, bloodshot eyes. Briganti then showed him her vehicle in a drainage pond at the bottom of an embankment. She said she crashed it into the pond and then swam to shore.

When the vehicle was pulled from the pond, it had damage to the front driver's side corner of the bumper. Field sobriety tests were conducted, after which Briganti was arrested and taken to jail.
