#18 UMW Field Hockey Falls to Washington College 5-3
Washington College jumped out to a 3-1 halftime lead and held on for a 5-3 victory over 18th ranked University of Mary Washington on Tuesday night in Chestertown, Md. The Eagles fall to 11-4 on the season.
The Shorewomen wasted little time, netting goals at 6:08 and 7:32 into the game. The Eagles cut the deficit in half as junior Lisa Charney scored unassisted 13:28 into the game, but Washington College scored the next two goals, both by Claire McAuliffe, to push the lead to 4-1.
Sophomore Caitlin Baker then netted a pair of goals to cut the deficit to one at 4-3, but the Shorewomen put the game away with an insurance goal with less than 10 minutes left.
The Eagles led in shots, 24-16, and in penalty corners, 11-6. Junior goalkeeper Claire Gianelle had nine saves for Mary Washington, who will visit Frostburg State University on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

UMW Men's Soccer Loses to St. Mary's for First Time in 30 Years
The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team tasted defeat for the first time in Capital Athletic Conference action this season in a 3-0 loss at St. Mary's College on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles fall to 5-5-2 overall and 3-1-1 in league play.
The Seahawks scored in the 11th minute, and followed with goals in the 50th and 73rd minutes for insurance. St. Mary's led in shots, 18-11, and in corner kicks, 4-2. Mary Washington freshman Tyler Back made four saves for the Eagles.
The Eagles will return to conference play on Saturday when they visit York College of Pa. at 3:00 p.m.
