UMW Field Hockey Blanks Hood, 13-0
Junior midfielder Lisa Charney scored two goals and added four assists to pace the 17th-ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 13-0 victory over Hood College on Wednesday in Fredericksburg. Sophomore Brenna Hill scored three goals, and three others scored twice in the Eagle attack.
Sophomore Caitlin Baker opened the scoring on an assist from Florence George less than five minutes into the game, and senior Morgan Jones scored on a Baker assist two minutes later to up the lead to 2-0. George scored nine minutes into the game, and Hill and Charney followed within the span of a minute midway through the half to advance the lead to 5-0 by halftime.
The Eagles wasted little time in starting the second half, as senior Kaitlyn Ripley scored on a Charney assist just 16 seconds into the second frame. Jones scored her second goal of the game less than two minutes later from Charney, and Baker and George teamed up for another goal 3:20 into the second half.
George scored again five minutes into the half, and Charney added another goal less than 30 seconds later to up the lead to 11-0, and Hill scored twice to cap the scoring at 13-0.
The Eagles led in shots, 36-3, and in corners, 17-1. The Eagles used four goalies, with Emily Badis making two saves and Katie Gerbes making one.
Mary Washington will host undefeated and top-ranked Salisbury University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
UMW Men's Soccer Ties NC Wesleyan, 1-1

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team played 110 minutes of soccer on Wednesday at North Carolina Wesleyan College in a 1-1 draw. The Eagles move to 4-4-1 on the season.
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles reached the scoreboard first, as sophomore David Heller scored on a Robbie Davis assist at 68:24. The Battling Bishops tied the score at one 10 minutes later, and both teams played scoreless through regulation and two scoreless overtimes.
In a very evenly matched game, each team had 14 shots, and both teams had seven corner kicks. Freshman Tyler Back made five saves in goal for the Eagles, while NC Wesleyan made four saves.
The Eagles will visit Frostburg State University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in a key CAC contest.
