Earthquake Shakes Central Virginia: Media Reports

Epicenter of early Sunday temblor is near site of 2011 quake.

A small earthquake early Sunday rattled the town of Louisa, about 30 miles southwest of Fredericksburg, according to media reports.

The U.S. Geological Survey said a 2.8 magnitude earthquake occurred with an epicenter around six miles south of Louisa shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday, WJLA-TV Channel 7 reported.

There were no reports of injuries or damage.

The earthquake struck along the central Virginia Seismic Zone, in the same area where a 5.8 magnitude temblor struck in the summer of 2011, according to WRC-TV Channel 4. That quake was felt up and down the East Coast and caused widespread damaged, including at the Washington Monument.
