Edward Joseph Cornell, 63

Edward Joseph Cornell, 63, of Fredericksburg passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center.

Edward was born in Chicago Ill., the oldest of nine children. Edward was a highly accomplished individual who achieved an MBA and degrees in physics and electronics. He also began working on his doctorate degree with the University of Phoenix.

His career included a Congressional fellowship with Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, for which he was especially proud. He was employed with the Federal Aviation Administration in Washington, D.C., where he worked for 38 years and held various positions throughout his tenure. He was a very generous person and a devoted family man.

He leaves behind to mourn, his wife, Cleary Cornell; stepdaughter Candice; and grandchildren Jewel, Caius , Oceana and Cupressania; stepson Brandon and his wife, Marissa; two brothers, Vaughn and his wife, Renda, and Verne and his wife, Amy; his cousin, Ronald Flowers and wife, Mattie; and his nieces and nephews, Veronica Cummings, Taquisha, Lavonda, Donald, Victor,Vanessa, Vaughn Jr., Darryl and Ronald.

He is predeceased by his mother, Elaine Cummings; his father; and his siblings, Victor, Vincent, Vivian, Van, Valton and Valerie.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A Mass of celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Lakewood Cemetery, Bowling Green.

A reception will be held at the Cornell home, immediately following Edward’s burial.
