Here's a list of dates for Fredericksburg residents to remember for 2020 elections, including deadlines for registering to vote.
FREDERICKSBURG, VA — It's going to be a busy year for elections in the City of Fredericksburg. Along with citywide elections, residents will get to vote in party primaries and congressional and presidential elections. Starting tomorrow, for example, absentee voting begins in the Democratic primary in Virginia for president.
Here's a list of dates to remember for 2020 elections, including deadlines for registering to vote.
Jan. 16 — Absentee voting for the Democratic presidential primary in Virginia begins in the Registrar's office at 601 Caroline St. in Fredericksburg.

Feb. 10 — Last day to register or update registration to participate in the March 3 Democratic presidential primary.
March 3 — Election Day polls for Democratic presidential primary open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* The Virginia Republican Party has chosen to cancel its presidential primary for 2020 and choose delegates for the party's presidential convention at a state convention.
April 13 — Last day to register to vote or update registration and participate in the May 5 general election in the City of Fredericksburg for mayor, at-large city council and at-large school board.
May 5 — Election Day polls open for city offices from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
May 18 — Last day to register to vote or update registration and participate in June 9 primary elections for congressional and other primaries.
June 9 — Election Day polls for primaries open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Sept. 20 — Absentee voting begins for U.S. president and other federal offices in the Registrar's office at 601 Caroline St. in Fredericksburg.
Oct. 12 — Last day to register to vote or update registration and participate in the Nov. 3 general election for president and other federal offices.
Oct. 27 — Last day to request an absentee ballot be mailed to you for the Nov. 3 general election.
Nov. 3 — Election Day polls open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
