Elizabeth Howard Lacy Thompson of Fredericksburg, Virginia died Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Vibra Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.
Liz was the daughter of Dr. Edgar Willis Lacy, Jr. and his wife Alma Pancake Lacy of Winchester, Virginia. She was born on January 25, 1941 in Richmond, Virginia. She attended Winchester City schools and graduated from John Handley High School in 1959. Liz attended Hollins College and received a degree in Medical Technology at the Medical College of Virginia in 1963.
She married Dr. Wyatt Wheeler Thompson of Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1964. They lived in Tucson, Arizona for 2 years and Winchester, Virginia for 5 years before settling in Fredericksburg.

Liz was an Elder of The First Presbyterian Church and served as sanctuary flower coordinator for many years. She was a long-time supporter of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the University of Mary Washington and served on their board in past years. She enjoyed volunteering at Micah Ecumenical Ministries. Liz was an active member of the Garden Club of Virginia and served as a past president of the Rappahannock Valley Garden Club. She loved flower arranging and spent many hours creating beautiful arrangements for Historic Garden Week and the HFFI candlelight tours. She was an avid reader and for 45 years loved playing bridge and mahjong with the same group of friends. She will be remembered most for her inspirational strength and as a role model for her family and friends.
Liz was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Wyatt; her parents; and brother Edgar Willis Lacy, III. She is survived by her daughters, Covell Thompson Rogers and husband Drake of Charleston, SC, Brooke Kirkpatrick Thompson of Charlotte, NC, Anne Terrell Masters and husband Eric of Cary, NC; her son, Wyatt Wheeler Thompson, Jr. “Pete” and wife Laurie of Raleigh, NC; five grandsons, Frank, Thomas, Willis, Wheeler and Matthew; two granddaughters, Folden and Sarah; her sister, Anne Lacy O’Donnell of Winchester; her brother-in-law, John and wife Patsy of Fredericksburg; sisters-in-law, Linda Lacy of Richmond and Margaret Thompson McCain and husband Frank of Winston-Salem, NC; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, January 20 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 21 at The Presbyterian Church of Fredericksburg, 810 Princess Anne Street. Family and friends may call on the family one hour before the service in the Church Parlor, 304 George Street.
