First Freezing Temps May Hit Northern Virginia This Week
It's going to get cold — the coldest so far this season — later this week in Northern Virginia, according to the National Weather Service.

STERLING, VA — Break out the heavy coats, for Northern Virginia's first freezing temperatures are expected to blow in Friday night with an Arctic air blast, according to the National Weather Service's satellite branch in Sterling. After a mostly sunny day with relatively mild temperatures, the thermometer should take a dive that night with lows in the upper 20s to lower 30s.
For the rest of the week, meanwhile, plenty of rain will be around in starts and stops. By the time Thursday rolls around, though, an arctic front "will be knocking on the door," across the Northeast, the National Weather Service says. Here's the latest forecast from said service:
Tonight: Isolated showers before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. North wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tuesday: Rain likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Tuesday Night: Rain. Low around 42. North wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Rain likely, mainly before 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. North wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
