Flash Flood Watch Begins Friday Morning
Regardless of Hurricane Joaquin's path, area is preparing for heavy rains Friday and Saturday.

A flash flood watch has been issued for the region from Friday morning through Saturday evening.
Rain will become widespread and increase in intensity across the area Friday, and continue into Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
This is in advance of Hurricane Joaquin, a dangerous storm that looked like it would stay off the coast, according to Thursday evening forecasts.

Forecasters expect three to six inches of rain between the Blue Ridge and the Chesapeake Bay, with locally higher amounts possible.
“Heavy rain could fall over a short period of time on saturated soil, which could lead to flash flooding,” according to the NWS. “There is potential for rapid rises of water on numerous small streams, as well as in poor drainage areas.”
