Fleeing Driver Hit Stafford Deputy During Traffic Stop: Police

A Stafford County deputy suffered minor injuries when a woman hit her with her car during a traffic stop on Tuesday, authorities said.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A Stafford County deputy suffered minor injuries on Tuesday after a woman hit him with her car as she tried to flee a traffic stop, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

First responders took the injured deputy to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities have not publicly identified the woman who hit the deputy. However, the sheriff's office said investigators "are aware of her identity."

The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday near the intersection of Garrisonville Road and Eustace Road, according to the police report. The deputy pulled over a Nissan Altima for a traffic stop.

When the deputy walked up to the Nissan, the woman behind the wheel drove into him. She struck the deputy, his motorcycle, and another vehicle before driving down Garrisonville Road and stopping at the 610 Car Wash, authorities said.

At the car wash, the driver abandoned the car and ran into the woods, police said. Investigators noted that a girl who was a passenger in the car also ran into the woods.

The sheriff's office K-9 and drone units found the girl, but they did not find the driver on Tuesday. Authorities are continuing to search for her, but they believe she left the county.
