Former School Band Director Arrested, Accused Of Having A Relationship With A Student

A former band director at Chancellor High School in Spotsylvania was arrested after he was accused of having a relationship with a student.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — The former band director at Chancellor High School in Spotsylvania County was arrested last week. Police claimed that Ryan Addair had an inappropriate relationship with an underaged student while he was employed at the school in 2020.

Addair is charged with one count of indecent liberties with a child, according to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

He has not been employed by Spotsylvania County Public Schools since June 2020. Addair is currently the band director at Glen Allen High School in Henrico County, though he was placed on administrative leave after his arrest, according to WTVR in Richmond.

Authorities in Spotsylvania County opened an investigation after they received an anonymous tip alleging that Addair had an inappropriate relationship with one of his students in 2020.

The Sheriff’s Office Child Victim Unit interviewed the victim. Investigators said they were able to find evidence that tied Addair to the crimes.

Authorities said the offenses occurred between in March 2020. They also noted that the offenses occurred at two separate locations, though they did not specify where.

On Monday, Addair was arraigned in Spotsylvania County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. He was released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.
