Fredericksburg Area Schools Make Weather Decision For Jan. 28

Snow is expected to arrive in the region on Friday, and schools in the Fredericksburg area are changing their schedules accordingly.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Due to expected inclement weather in the area, schools in Fredericksburg, Stafford County, and Spotsylvania County have cancelled all after school activities on Friday, Jan. 28. Stafford County has also cancelled all events that were scheduled before 12 p.m. on Saturday.

Spotsylvania schools said they would make a decision regarding Saturday's activities on Friday.

Stafford County, Fredericksburg, and other parts of the region are under a winter weather advisory from 4 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service expects 1 to 3 inches of snow with impacts to the Friday evening commute.

The Virginia Department of Transportation, which maintains most roads in the the area, pretreated roads and will deploy trucks midday Friday to treat roads as needed. With temperatures expected to be below freezing in then next several days, VDOT urges drivers to use caution in areas that can be icy, particularly bridges, ramps, overpasses and elevated surfaces.
