Fredericksburg Cites Coronavirus For Spring Break School Closings

FREDERICKSBURG, VA —Fredericksburg City Public Schools will be closed from Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 22 due to the "rapidly evolving situation with the COVID-19 virus," the school system said Thursday. The city's schools were already scheduled to be closed to students during the week of March 16 for spring break.

The Fredericksburg school system's administrative offices also will be closed through March 22. The school system did not offer any information on whether schools will reopen when students return from spring break on March 23.

No athletic practices, including Captain's practices, will be held from March 13 through March 22. However, all sports practices will take place as scheduled Thursday after school. The baseball and softball srimmages with Freedom High School also will go on as planned on Thursday, the school system said.

The SAT testing at James Monroe High Schol planned for Saturday has been canceled. Students should contact the College Board to pick a new test date and location, the city schools said.

Virginia now has 15 cases of coronavirus, an increase from the nine cases reported Wednesday, the Virginia Department of Health said Thurday.
