Fredericksburg City Council To Consider 25-Year Solar Lease For Closed Landfill Site

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The Fredericksburg City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Feb. 24, to consider a solar facility lease with Community Power Group LLC. The hearing will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, located at 715 Princess Anne St. in Fredericksburg.

The proposed lease agreement is for a term of up to 25 years of operations at the site of the closed landfill, situated at 131 Cool Springs Road in Fredericksburg. This location is also identified as Stafford County Parcel ID 54 61.

Under the terms of the agreement, Community Power Group LLC would pursue all necessary permits for the operation of a ground-mounted solar energy project. This would occur during an initial two-year option period, which includes one optional extension.

The City Council is acting pursuant to Virginia Code § 15.2-1800. Bids for any competing proposals must be submitted to the Clerk of Council by 1:30 p.m. on the day of the hearing, Feb. 24. Proposals were previously accepted through a joint procurement process issued by Stafford County on May 29, 2024.

Members of the public can express their views at the public hearing or by submitting written comments. Written comments can be sent via U.S. Mail or email to the Clerk of Council. Comments received before 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 24, will be read into the record at the City Council meeting. The meeting will be broadcast on Cox Channel 84 and Verizon Channel 42, and online at www.regionalwebtv.com/fredcc.
