FREDERICKSBURG, VA — With below-freezing temperatures expected to refreeze ice on area roads in the morning, Fredericksburg City Public Schools has decided to operate on a 2-hour delay on Thursday, Feb. 5, according to an alert on the FCPS webite.

"A 2-hour delay will provide necessary sunlight and warmer temperatures," the release said. "We ask everyone to slow down while driving and remain cautious on sidewalks, parking lots, and other areas where ice may still be present. We also encourage heightened awareness of students and pedestrians who may be navigating icy streets and walkways."

In addition, the sub workshop originally scheduled for Thursday, Feb.5, has been rescheduled to Thursday, Feb. 12, at 10 a.m. at Walker-Grant Center, which is located at 200 Gunnery Road.

"At this time, there remain some locations where school buses may be unable to safely enter or maneuver single-lane roads," the release said. "In these cases, buses may need to pick up students at a nearby safe location that may differ from the usual bus stop. With low temperatures and possible longer transportation wait times, please wear warm clothing."
