Fredericksburg Schools: Key 2026-27 Dates Families Need To Know

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Summer break is winding down, and Fredericksburg City Public Schools families can begin planning for the 2026-27 school year.

Students in Fredericksburg City Public Schools will return to classrooms on Wednesday, Aug. 12, following a transition day for kindergarten, sixth-grade and ninth-grade students on Tuesday, Aug. 11. Staff workdays are scheduled Aug. 3-10 before students return.-

In addition, the Fredericksburg City School Board approved new hours for the 2026-27 school year.

• Preschool: No Change
• Elementary: 8:55 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.
• Middle: 8:05 a.m. - 3:05 p.m.
• High: 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Some of the biggest breaks during the school year include Labor Day weekend in early September, Thanksgiving break from Nov. 25-27, winter break beginning Dec. 21 and extending through Jan. 1, and spring break from March 22-26.
