Voting Requirements and Registration

Residents can check their voter registration status online. In 2022, Virginia eliminated voter registration deadlines. Voters can now register on Election Day and vote using a provisional ballot.

Voters can only vote in one party's primary in Virginia, but they do not have to register in advance. At their polling site, voters will indicate which party's primary they would like to vote in.

The City of Fredericksburg's website allows people to check where their voting location is. If you're voting on Election Day, polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. An acceptable form of identification is required to vote in person at your polling place.

Virginia voters do not need an excuse to request a mail-in ballot, however the deadline to request a mail-in ballot has passed.

Completed ballots must be returned to the Office of Elections by 7 p.m. on June 20. Voters can drop their ballot of at the box at 601 Caroline Street in Fredericksburg. Witness signatures are required for vote-by-mail ballots.

Unofficial election results will start to come in after polls close on the Virginia Department of Elections website. Follow Patch on Election Day for live coverage of congressional election results.
