FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A Haymarket woman faces DUI and felony hit-and-run charges after a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash Saturday on Plank Road, according to Fredericksburg police.

An officer responded to the 2500 block of Plank Road, where a motorcycle operator reported that a white SUV struck him and left the scene, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department. The 38-year-old Spotsylvania man was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

A short time later, another officer spotted a white SUV traveling in the 700 block of Caroline Street, according to police. As the officer approached, the driver threw a broken driver’s-side mirror from the SUV onto the street, authorities said.

Driver Held Without Bond

Police identified the driver as Mikaela Ann Haley Butler, 30, of Haymarket. Investigators linked the SUV to the crash using evidence collected at the scene and statements Butler made, according to police.

Butler was arrested on charges of driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level greater than 0.15% and felony failure to stop after a crash resulting in injury, FPD said. She was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

Fredericksburg General District Court records list the DUI allegation as first-offense driving while intoxicated, a Class 1 misdemeanor. The court record does not include Butler’s alleged blood alcohol level. A separate record lists the hit-and-run allegation as a Class 5 felony.

The court records also list a Class 4 misdemeanor charge of drinking while driving or possessing an open container. Butler also faces traffic infractions alleging expired registration, failure to have the vehicle inspected and defective equipment.

Butler’s arraignment was continued Monday, Aug. 17, according to court records. An attorney review is scheduled for Sept. 15 at 8:30 a.m. The misdemeanor and traffic cases are scheduled for an adjudicatory hearing Oct. 27 at 10:30 a.m. No disposition or plea was listed.

The charges are allegations. Butler is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
