Fredericksburg Holiday Events: Tree Lighting, Christmas Parade

Kick off the 2019 holiday season in Fredericksburg with the annual Children's Christmas Tree Lighting, planned Nov. 16.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Kick off the 2019 holiday season in Fredericksburg by taking the family to the city's annual Children's Christmas Tree Lighting, planned at 4 p.m. Nov. 16. The free event is open to the public and takes place in Hurkamp Park, 500 William St.

In addition to the ceremonial tree lighting, the event features a visit by Santa and other holiday characters, crafts, live music and story time. The event is organized by Fredericksburg Economic Development and Tourism and Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation and Events.

Once Thanksgiving is over, the holidays get into full swing with the city's annual Christmas Parade, planned at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 7.

Free to the public, the parade travels along Caroline and Princess Anne streets between Wolfe and Amelia streets in downtown Fredericksburg. The parade is held rain, snow or shine.

Dec. 21: Cookies with Santa

Bring the little ones to meet Santa and decorate a sweet treat at the annual Cookies with Santa event. Scheduled from 2-3:30 p.m., Cookies with Santa will be held at the Dorothy Hart Community Center.

Open to kids 2-10 years of age, parents may take pictures of their children with Santa or purchase a professional print from the event photographer. Registration for this event is required.
