Fredericksburg Lends Support To Biden's VA Super Tuesday Victory
Former Vice President Joe Biden won the Super Tuesday Democratic primary election by a wide margin in the City of Fredericksburg.
FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Former Vice President Joe Biden won the Super Tuesday Democratic primary election by a wide margin in the City of Fredericksburg, but his performance in the city was not as strong as how he did in Virginia as a whole. Biden received 2,124 votes, or 45.8 percent of the total in Fredericksburg, followed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) with 1,259 votes, or 27.1 percent, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) with 643 votes, or 13.0 percent.
In Virginia, Biden received 705,800 votes, or 53.3 percent, with Sanders coming in second place with 306,023 votes, or 23.1 percent, and Warren finishing third with 142,470 votes, or 10.8 percent. Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who dropped out of the presidential race on Wednesday and endorsed Biden, received less than 10 percent of the vote in Virginia.
Voters turned out in record numbers in Virginia on Super Tuesday, including in Fredericksburg. With votes totaling more than 1.3 million, this year's Democratic primary in Virginia far exceeded the 782,900 votes cast in the 2016 primary when former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton beat Sanders in a landslide. The turnout also surpassed the previous record of 986,000 votes cast in the 2008 Democratic primary.

In Fredericksburg, 4,639 votes were cast in Tuesday's primary, 75 percent higher than the turnout of 2,656 in 2016 and 72 percent higher than the 2,695 votes cast in the city in the 2008 Democratic primary.

Biden won each of Fredericksburg's five voting precincts. He also won every precinct in Spotsylvania and Stafford counties.
In Fredericksburg, Biden won the largest percentage of votes — 53.6 percent — in Precinct 101, where residents vote at the Hugh Mercer Elementary School. Sanders came in second at the precinct with 25 percent of the vote, followed by Warren at 9.3 percent. Biden won his smallest percentage of votes — 42.7 percent — in Precinct 201 where residents vote at the Dorothy Hart Community Center.
Sanders performed the strongest in Precinct 402, where he received 31.2 percent of the vote. In Precinct 402, residents vote at the V.F.W. Post 3103 on Princess Anne Street. Warren had her strongest performance in Precinct 201 where she won 18.4 percent of the vote.
In the 2016 presidential general election, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won nearly 60 percent of the vote in Fredericksburg, easily beating Donald Trump who received 33 percent.
