Fredericksburg Man Arrested, Charged In Connection With Shooting

Da'Jon Mickens faces multiple charges in the incident which police say happened early on Jan. 1 when a woman was shot in the abdomen.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – A 28-year-old Fredericksburg man was arrested Wednesday night after Stafford County SWAT team members executed a search warrant in connection to a New Year’s Day shooting, police said Thursday.

Da’Jon Mickens was arrested at a residence where he was known to stay in the 200 block of Wood Landing Road just after 5 p.m. Wednesday. Mickens was found inside the home after SWAT team members arrived with a search warrant in connection with the shooting.

The arrest was made less than a week after Stafford County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at a home in the 200 block of Warrenton Road at 3:22 a.m. Jan. 1 following the report of a shooting. Deputies found a woman who had been shot in the abdomen. The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and released.

Deputies who arrived at the scene saw a vehicle leaving the scene. Deputies stopped the vehicle and identified one of the occupants as Mickens. An investigation later linked Mickens to the shooting, which led officers to obtain the search warrant for the Wood Landing Road residence on Wednesday. SWAT team members also found a gun and narcotics inside the home Wednesday when they arrested Mickens.

Mickens has been charged with malicious wounding and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, police said Thursday. Additional charges are pending, police said. Mickens is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
